Saint James is a hamlet in the town of Smithtown on the North Shore. Saint James is named after the local Episcopal Church. When the postal service established a post office here, they adopted the church's name to mark the area. Once known as a popular vacation destination for famous stage actors and actresses, modern Saint James is also suited to families. Saint James schools have an excellent reputation. Saint James is replete with fine dining, excellent shopping and historical landmarks. Residents pride themselves on Saint James' quaintness, and rightfully so; historic buildings rest comfortably beside newer modern residences and buildings. Many Saint James residents work for one of Long Island's many technology companies, but a train ride to Manhattan is as quick as an hour during rush hour by express train.
